‘You Can Farm’ – Farm Visit 2019
IASTA are delighted to announce details of an upcoming farm visit for 5th Year Agricultural Science students. The ‘You Can Farm’ event, held in conjunction with Teagasc and the EU project NEFERTITI programme, takes place on Karol Kissane’s dairy farm Ballylongford, Co.Kerry on Wednesday 15th May 2019, running from 11:00am to 1:00pm. This event is only open to Kerry schools (invitations sent directly to schools) but further similar visits are planned next academic year.
The overall objectives for the event on the 15th May are:
- To promote dairy farming as a positive career,
- Demonstrate different pathways to becoming a dairy farmer,
- To increase students overall knowledge of dairy farming.
This event will be interactive allowing students to get involved in some demonstrations where possible. We hope this will create the best possible learning environment for the students.
A second event is planned in September, on Brege Corkery and Diarmuid Scannell’s Farm at Ballyburden, Ballincollig, Co. Cork. Please stay tuned for further details.
