Autumn Inservice 2017

The IASTA Autumn In-Service 2017 takes place this weekend at Gurteen Agricultural College, Co. Tipperary and at Grennans, Rath, Birr, Co.Offaly. The event is hosted by our Midlands Branch and some places are still available – to book a place simply email secretary@wordpress-606109-2220959.cloudwaysapps.com. Mike Pearson and his staff at Gurteen have lining up a very practical based programme for us on Saturday, which will be orientated towards the work that students could engage in for their Practical Experience Portfolio. They aim to cover aspects over four sessions on the College friesian dairy herd, beef cattle, sheep flock and their energy/ biomass/ bio digestion unit. All the details are below:

Date: Saturday 11th November 2017, beginning at 8:30am.

Schedule:

TPN Registration:  8:30am – 9:00am Tea / Coffee, Note there will be a 10 euro Donation.

9:05 am Welcome – Mr. Mike Pearson, Principal, Gurteen Agricultural College.

Approximate times:-

9:25 – 10:10 am 1St Session

10:15 –11:00 am. 2nd Session

11:00 – 11:10am – Tea/ Coffee Break.

11:15 – 12:00 pm. 3rd Session

12:05 – 12:50pm – 4th Session

12:55 – 1:35pm      Lunch

1:40pm Approximately – Depart for Grennans Feedstuffs Plant in Rath, Birr. John Grennan and his Staff are lining up a Practical Experience type session for us including their Grain intake (Test undertaken on grain at arrival) Milling Plant in operation, Seed and Fertilizer Blending Unit. We will also meet their Animal Nutritionist team, hopefully there will be some take away samples.

3:45 pm Tea/Coffee and a Members Forum & Plan for Branch Meeting + Venues

Footnote: The Autumn In-Service is open to ALL Agricultural Science Teachers.

Note: Please bring:-(i) Rainwear, appropriate Footwear and observe all Farm Safety requirements..

(ii) Teaching Council No.
